“Soft Illusions”
Opening night with welcoming speech by BEC JUNIPER
27th December
6-8pm
“Soft Illusions” is centrally a feminine interpretation of the WA interior; about it’s complex desert heart. In this show I try to present this environmental spiritual identity by stripping away to the primordial poetry.
These paintings are concerned with landscape; the Western Australia that exists beyond the city and beyond the places of comfort recognisable human scale or man referencing modernity.
The imagery is emotive recollection of this arid world.
“Soft Illusions is a transit through landscape.”
Rather than geography as a picture, a scene or a view, or even perspective and topography, my painting refers to a reality that only exists in my mind.
My work is about the up close; that geological erosive language and the theatre of forces at play.
I then remove myself at a great focal distance from this close up connection into a poetic perspective 30 thousand feet above. I don’t exist as a reporter of the experience anywhere in between.
