Sculptor Jordan Sprigg has been playing around with metal from a young age. Growing up on a farm in the wheat belt area of Western Australia, Jordan would collect scrap metal and experiment with shapes and forms as a hobby on his time off from school. With his drawing skills and love of animals together with a creative mind, Jordan now makes amazingly lifelike animals that leave you in wonder and awe as to how he has pieced them altogether. Jordan’s appreciation of the timeworn metal parts that he uses allows space to give them new life in their current composition.
Artist Statement
Jordan Sprigg is a self taught artist who has been drawing for as long as he remembers. He had piles of drawings of animals, monsters and machines. His obsession with these things were taken from paper to then experimenting with scrap metal. Learning how to use tools from a young age from his dad, he would spend many hours in the farm shed making animal sculptures.
Jordan Sprigg grew up on a farm in the Wheatbelt area of Western Australia and this is where he finds off cast scrap metal, old machinery parts and all sorts of objects that are rubbish to the farmers around him. He believes that by using these objects to create an artistic piece, he is not only giving the viewer the opportunity to enjoy the animal that he has created, but to also reminisce as to what the pieces were once used for.
For Jordan there is nothing more exciting than finding new found objects which get the creative juices flowing and the mind ticking over… what life will this old junk take on next…
